Let’s All Take a Deep Breath
By Scott McPherson
At a recent Seacoast Liberty event I was approached by a member of our organization who told me that he planned to start dedicating a great deal of his time to persuading people to homeschool their children. I applauded his intentions, only to quickly re-evaluate my initial reaction.
Because, you see, he then told me that one of his methods for accomplishing this goal would be to “convince parents that sending their kids to a public school is child abuse.”

Last year’s resolution was to get involved with local politics and to write about it, which I mostly did. Not quite weekly, but hey.
This year, I created a new organization. This grew out of some conversations leading up to the election; there was a taxpayers’ group in Portsmouth, but no general liberty organization. Well, there is now.
Announcing Portsmouth Pro Liberty. Currently it is a blog and a mailing list, and we are small, but we are more than just me. Come join us. Check out that site, and e-mail info@portsmouthproliberty.org if you are interested.

The bad news is that neither serious fiscal conservative, Jack Thorsen or Bill St. Laurent, was elected to City Council. The incumbents endorsed by the Association of Portsmouth Taxpayers all were returned, so here’s hoping they live up to their rhetoric. Promising newcomer Tom Martin was elected to the School Board, so that’s something.

HELP! 15 Activists Will Make the Difference! NOV 3 Portsmouth ID the Taxers Dav!
This is a call to all NH activists. I need help with ID the Taxers Day – NOV 3 Portsmouth NH.
If you believe in liberty you have to ACT! This recession, people are very sympathetic to decreasing government.
I NEED YOUR HELP – 15 or more people to stand with signs for the voters pointing out who the taxers are. Don’t leave this others to do this — it will never happen if you do.

Plain and simple, skydiving is all about controlled terror, and I love it.

“I was brought up as a devout Catholic. I had long since stopped believing in God. I always wondered, if things really hit the fan, whether I would, under pressure, turn around and say, you know, a few Hail Marys, and say ‘Get me out of here’. It never once occurred to me. It meant that I really don’t believe, and I really do think that when you die you die, that’s it, there’s no afterlife. There’s nothing.”

Primum non nocere is a Latin phrase that means “First, do no harm.” The phrase is sometimes recorded as primum nil nocere.

Once upon a time, we had this crazy notion that people should accomplish goals, and in so doing learn that they are capable human beings. The reward is an earned sense of self-worth.
Some even surmount incredible physical, emotional, and mental obstacles. All will eventually gain a sense of self-esteem, what psychologist Nathaniel Branden defines as “the experience of being competent to cope with the basic challenges of life and of being worthy of happiness.”
And, in time, the person of high self-esteem reaches for greater heights. Sometimes he fails, but that psychological foundation helps him pick himself up off the ground and move ever upward.

And with it, the silly season is upon us. Local elections in Portsmouth are gearing up. No idea yet whether any of the candidates are any good.
The good news is that the Association of Portsmouth Taxpayers is interviewing all of the candidates, possibly at an open forum, depending on how many volunteers step up. Either way, I have volunteered to be part of that, so I should get a better sense of the candidates.

tribe - noun any aggregate of people united by ties of descent from a common ancestor, community of customs and traditions, adherence to the same leaders, etc.
They came from the Seacoast (on the eastern border), Salem (on the southern border), and Winchester (on the western border). They came from the city (Manchester) and the country (Barnstead, Grafton). They came from all over New Hampshire, by way of states all over the U.S. (Maine, Washington, California, South Carolina, Kansas, Georgia). They came to help me move into my new home.

Writing on the LewRockwell.com blog on June 19, Stephan Kinsella claims that it “is a surprise…that we have libertarians who are still in favor of government – so called ‘minarchists’…It should be clear by now that minarchism is just another form of statism.

The new job is going well, and it is time to stop ignoring the allegedly weekly blog postings. (Funny how “Monday” keeps getting later in the week, though, innit?)
Foster’s Daily Democrat did finally publish my medical marijuana letter (search for my favorite word, “disingenuous”). I invoked St. Peter, whose death still makes me furious and sad.

I must admit to being a bit lax the last couple of weeks. I did get the job that took me to Manhattan, so that’s pressure off.
Unfortunately, in the meantime, we missed the deadline to apply for a booth at Market Square Day, which I was excited to do. Now that we know what that entails, we’ll be ready for next year.
I also wrote a letter to Foster’s Daily Democrat about medical marijuana; it appeared they were going to run it, but I did not see it. If anyone did run across it in the print edition, please let me know.
