Deficit

Does 'Hodes' Mean Stupid In Some Other Language?

Duh.

Paul Hodes is singing to his choir again. This time he’s over at HuffPo wielding the party rhetoric like a drunk man with a fireplace poker.  It's nice to see him so comfortable in his own ignorance.  You really get the feeling he believes it.

Democrat Deficit Deficit Disorder

Why Can't You Tell The Truth? How many times have you heard people say, "Well the state can't print its own money?"  Well J-Lynch and the democrats have found a suitable equivalent; just pretend it's there anyway and call it even.

But it's not enough to just pretend you balanced the budget, you have to follow it up with a cover story and they found one when their revenue projections didn't stink quite as badly as predicted.  Still bad, just not as bad.

Harry Reid's Innocent Victims

They are making hay and BS sandwiches over at Boo-Hoo Hampshire, this time about the latest unemployment benefits stalemate.   Dean was just waxing on CBS news coverage and decided to lament 30 years of GOP policy crushing the little guy, and how even now they are somehow still pulling the levers to crush them even more.  No I’m serious.

But the best part is the “Boo-Hoo” hook.

The End Of The Road

Hat in hand, governor Lynch is looking for the feds to bail him out of the accumulated disaster of his administration. On the matter of extending federal unemployment benefits (from this morning’s Union Leader) the governor was emphatic.

Failure to do so (to extend federal benefits) will jeopardize the economic progress we've been making, Lynch said, warning that roughly 20,000 people in the state could run out of benefits in the next four months. Next week alone, 938 people will lose their benefits, he said.

Progress?

What About Social Issues?

I've been hearing a good deal of input on the matter of social issues.  Some moderates or independents, are claiming that this is not the election to waste time on social issues.  Fiscal issues are the way to go.  And they may be right superficially.  But I feel compelled to make a point here that might throw a monkey wrench in that recommendation.

Why The Stimulus Had To Fail

It’s simple economics.  Government money comes from taxpayers.  The more government spends the more it relies on taxpayers to pay for its spending.  The less money taxpayers have the smaller the economy will be the fewer jobs there are, which means less income, less taxes, more debt.

New Hampshire Needs To Go Into Rehab

There are those who believe that a congressman or Senator has an obligation to get ours back—and then some.  That is, work hard to bring home the taxpayer bacon.  But the pork from DC comes with strings attached and recent research demonstrates that it may actually be worse to rely on federal money and contracts than to let private market forces drive local commerce.

One Hell Of A Wild Ride

There is always speculation about the state of the economy and plenty of people--mostly middle left--have looked at the goat entrails and pronounced a recovery underway if for no other reason than that they want to.   More than a few folks disagree, and it is fair to say that to some small degree the  opinion is colored by an overt objection to the current administration or a near liberal-like inability to accept their affirmations on mere faith alone.  But they are not to be faulted for it, even for political reasons--at least not by the left who did the exact same thing in 2008 to get their boy anointed.

Some would argue that a few new temp jobs or the purchase of a few durable goods is a sign of a sta

What Property Rights?

Protecting property is the primary purpose of incorporation.  The State of New Hampshire, seeing itself as a unique collection of property owners, exists for the sole purpose of a shared interest in how the rule of law and contracts can be best applied to ensure liberty while still protecting private property.

Sometimes people forget about this fragile balance required to sustain liberty and property and elect bus loads of street mountebanks spewing feelings and promising sunshine and happiness if we simply let the government take on a few more responsibilities.  People are lazy or simply don't listen and the next thing you know we've got recurring deficits and the siren song for more revenue--also known as someone else's property.

A Sure Bet

The New Hampshire State Senate has made it's position clear.  Everything goes better with Gambling.  That pesky Lyme disease thing--probably get that passed with gambling.  And they would be more than willing to overturn any lingering Blue Laws if people could gamble on Sunday.  Want to make sure money is a form of free speech--talk to the casino, problem solved.

The Senate Democrat majority has gotten itself a stubborn streak on the matter of how best to hide their irresponsible spending.  Let them gamble! is the only viable alternative even though the House and the governor have told them no.

Unhitch The Debt Wagon

We watch with amusement as the legislature attempts again to reconcile it's bad fiscal manners, elbows on the table, slurping soup, and reaching across each others plates as they huddle over another last minute  committee of conference.  At the top of the menu is the budget, which is a coarse left over from last year that no one can stomach, or manage to keep down.

Does Prohibition Work?

On the question of using gambling revenue to hide irresponsible democrat spending, State Senator Maggie Hassan was quoted in this mornings Union Leader saying.

"My question is, does prohibition work? I don't think it does."

It's A Trap!

The idea of the variable rooms and meals tax for towns is a trap set by the democrat majority legislature.  I mentioned it here but let me reiterate how it works for those who may not have noticed or guessed for themselves.
